Hiking by Lake Klopein

The starting point is the Hotel & Spa Sonne. Here, the Kitzelberg tour commences along the shore of Kleinsee to the beginning of the forest road up the Kitzelberg. With an easy ascent, you hike through the forest to the summit of the Kitzelberg at 686 metres above sea level.

The vistas from the new viewing platform provide a glorious view over the entire region of Lake Klopein – South Carinthia. Following this, you can either go back the same way or simply continue towards Turnersee and then return to the starting point via the Turnerseestraße.

This hiking route is also particularly suitable for children. As you make your way through the forest, there is always something to discover and explore.

The circular trail around Lake Klopein begins directly by the hotel entrance and is the only fully circular lake promenade in Carinthia.
The hiking and walking trail leads along the north shore of the promenade with numerous opportunities to stop for a bite to eat. On the south bank, the path is quieter and surrounded by nature. A leisurely, family-friendly circular walk of 5.3 kilometres that is suitable for prams.

A short hike up to Georgiberg with a magnificent view of Lake Klopein.
The starting point is the car park in Georgibergstraße in Unterburg. From there, you follow a short stretch of road directly into the forest and continue on the gently ascending path uphill. The last climb before the summit (approx. 300 m) is somewhat steeper. The reward at the end is the unparalleled panoramic view of Lake Klopein and the Southern Carinthia region.

A circular hike in the shady deciduous forest south of Lake Klopein. With a medium level of difficulty, this beautiful hike of just under 6 kilometres and only 183 metres in altitude leads you around the Gracarca mountain. It is also particularly suitable for families with children.

You start in Unterburg, Georgibergstraße – Fichtenhof and hike your way into the forest. Then, at the tour info point for the Gracarca tour, you take the left-hand path through the forest to Oberburg and Grabelsdorf around the Gracarca and loop back south towards Lake Klopein.

Deep incisions left by the water in the rock characterise this wildly romantic gorge landscape. It is a truly impressive natural monument that has been created here. The Trögerner gorge is a hiker's and angler's paradise. Covering a distance of approx. 3.5 km, you can hike through the gorge at ground level or explore it by bike. Because it is so unique, it has been declared a nature reserve and provides a habitat for rare plants and animals.

This hiking trail is suitable for prams. At the end of the gorge, you’ll find a snack bar with a playground.

Duration approx. 2:10 h / 99 m vertical metres / 7 km

The toll road, which is asphalted throughout, takes you comfortably along the Hochobir alpine road to the "Eisenkappler Hütte" (1,555 m). From there, you take the safe and easy hiking trail with a walking time of approx. 1.5 hours to the summit (2,139 m). Thanks to the rare alpine flora and the magnificent distant view, which on a clear day reaches as far as the Großglockner and the Tauern glaciers, it is always a worthwhile destination.

The opening hours of the Eisenkappler Hütte are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May onwards. Access via the Hochobir alpine road is possible at all times!

The Petzen
From Siebenhütten, the Petzen mountain station, you make your way through the sparse larch forest, past the St. Anna Chapel to the tree line. Next up is the ascent to the Knieps-Sattel (2,010 m). Afterwards, the trail leads first to the summit cross of the Hochpetzen / Feistritzer Spitze (2,113 m) and then continues via the Neubersch trail (P4) into the Krischa cirque, which meets up with trail 603 (coming from the valley) next to the hunting lodge. After an easy climb of about 30 minutes, hiking the Petzen route takes you back to the mountain station cable car after the reservoir.
